Next I need to cut the side panels down to the body seam. I tried to separate the body at the seam, but when I did the metal did not want
to separate, tearing as I tried to do so. You can see how in the following
two pics.
After that, I decided to just cut above the body line and grind it down smooth. This worked much better overall. It also gave me a double wide lip to weld the capping to later on.
I also ground down the pillars smooth. A nice bead of weld and some more grinding and these will look great!
After I got the sides trimmed down I was able to get a good look at it again. I was planning to leave the front section 'as-is' and just have the back end convertible. When I got it to this point I didn't like the way it looked at all and decided I had better remove the front section as well. It might not look so bad in the pictures, but the height gain from the bed line to the roof line was now HUGE! It really looked a little silly and I just didn't like it.
