here's a tip we recently figured out...

Since that tube that has the shock tower often rusts thru in the front, you can cut that whole tube back (once upper shock mount and upper spring seat are removed) and then cut off the tubes that come out off the frame just ahead of them, and re-use that solid tubing to replace the rusted out tubing on the shock/spring front tube.

The tube that you sacrifice is not required for the car, so it is just sitting there waiting to be harvested!!

It was only extended out that far in order to mount the special framework that allows helicopter to pick up the G wagen, or similar for using crane to lift the G on cradle onto a boat.

Not as pretty job as guido's but definitely will do the trick:

For those that are wondering this is (or was) waterpump pulley off m110 engine. I had a couple of those laying around and they just happened to fit in. Height is pretty much the same as the original bulb, now I have to attach a rubber bumper somehow but I'll wait till I figure out how high my suspension lift will be to size it up.

perfect is an understatement !!!

look at the reflections throught the paint on the chassis ! its better than the paint on the bodywork of many a new G !
